A message from the Pharmacist

Hello, my name is John Davis, my wife and I own Service Drug of Midland. It gives us great pleasure to share our company story with you.

Service Drug began operations sometime in 1945 in downtown Midland, Texas. J.C. Lawrence was the owner of what the typical drugstore, gift shop, and soda fountain. I had a great opportunity to get to know J.C. when I was a new young Pharmacist in 1983. He told me stories about Midland's growth and how he enjoyed serving his patients and customers. "Things were a lot cheaper back then", he would say.

Kimberly tells the story of how her father and mother Don and Marilyn Haynes came to Midland from Dallas, Texas having worked for several pharmacies there and had always wanted a business of their own. Don and Marilyn had an entrepreneurial spirit and wanted to serve people. They bought the store in 1968 fulfilling their dream. Don would fill prescriptions and deliver them. He loved serving people. My fondest memories are given to me by past and current patients who tell me how he would get out at nights to help sick patients, often times delivering the prescriptions to their homes himself. His servant attitude and love for people would be the things that I would want when one day Kimberly and I would run the business. Don and Marilyn would say, "People don't care how much you know until they know how much you care about them".

Marilyn did everything, really she did. She would order gifts, sell, do the company books, cook, yes even helped in the fountain and made sure the recipes were just perfect. She provided support and enthusiasm, she had a "can do" spirit. Service Drug was a main gathering place in the Northland Shopping Center for breakfast, lunch and even dinner. The Haynes' worked long hours and they loved every minute of it. Their daughter Kimberly even worked at the store after school helping her parents in what needed to be done whether it was wrapping gifts, serving in the fountain, or helping out in the pharmacy with her father. It was truly a family owned business!

I get goose bumps now when I meet patients who have been coming into Service Drug for longer than I've been alive. Wow can you imagine that!

Today Kimberly and I have a great privilege and we are so grateful now we have a wonderful opportunity to share in the lives of so many people. We have the Best in Class group of employees. I am thankful for so many dedicated, loving, smiling, servant minded people who help make up what is now called Service Drug of Midland.

Service Drug of Midland serves all people. No matter who they are. If God made them, we serve them. That is the attitude we want most on display, to love God and to love our neighbor as we do ourselves. There is nothing we cannot do to help people. We get the most satisfaction when people say "Wow, that was fast" or "Thank you for doing that for me", even better when each employee reaches out to each other in a word of thanks or giving praises to one another. Hugs are endless at Service Drug of Midland. We are and will always be High Touch, look them in the eye and give a sincere smile and a warm word of reassurance to comfort those who are in need.

Since the beginning of Service Drug, now Service Drug of Midland, we have always wanted to expand and help more people and have more fun with our business enterprise. The last thing we want our patients to leave with is WOW! I can't believe it, what a wonderful experience, a feeling of joy and happiness, no matter what the circumstance.
